What exactly is a pulse oximeter for?
Maybe you or someone closed to you is short of breath periodically and your doctor asked you to pick up a pulse oximeter to measure their oxygen level.
It is a painless test that measures your oxygen saturation levels or the oxygen levels in your blood. How does it work anyway? A beam of red and infrared light passes through your capillary bed which pulsates. The ratio of red to infrared blood light is then transmitted. And then Voila...it gives the measure of your oxygen saturation of your blood.
Don't worry! It doesn't hurt. Below are fairly inexpensive pulse oximeters which received great reviews. Check it out and go buy one!
